Nancy Ann McCaslin was born and raised in Alexandria, Indiana December 21st, 1935. Her parents, Lucille and Lester McCaslin, were decent, kind, cheerful small town folk, each with longtime roots in Marion County. Lester ran a gas station.

Nancy was educated at Indiana University in Bloomington as an elementary school teacher. She stepped away from her career to devote herself exclusively to raising her family.

Nancy was kind and pragmatic. She was a loving wife and tireless mother whose greatest joy was being with her family and in particular with children. She loved dogs and the folksy tunes of The Oakridge Boys.

Nancy had so many gifts she shared with her children. She loved people and had a caring nature. She always treated others with empathy and generosity. With children she was magical. She also possessed an openness of mind and a bubbling eagerness to smile and laugh.

Nancy was tirelessly dedicated to her family and home. She was the beacon that drew family together at holidays. She made her home a beautiful place to live in and return to and was always pleasant, fun and positive- a joy to be around.

Nancy also possessed a simple, small-town decency. She was musical and could carry a tune well, but was too modest to perform much.

Her human understanding, positive spirit and unwavering devotion to those she loved live on in her children.

Below are pictures from Nancy’s early life in Indiana up through her college days.
